Eaglepaw stalked slowly up to a small mouse. It was the first pray he had seen all day. He couldn't miss it. Every bit of food would help the clan. When he was only a tail length away he jumped at it with a flash of claws the mouse lay limp at his paws. Quickly he barried the mouse in hopes of catching more. Eaglepaw padded closer to the river and sniffed the air. There wasn't much of a pray scent but he could just detect the scent of a vole. Quickly and quietly he padded towards the scent. Just up ahead he spotted a scrawny vole. Getting excited he lept at it. The vole scrambled and almost got away. He grabbed the vole with his claws and sank his teeth into it's neck.

Icestar was nearby, leading a solo hunting patrol well watching the RiverClan borders. She knew leafbare was comign and the prey was running short, but she had to try her best to keep her Clan fed. To her surprise, she scented something. She scented the air again; yes, that was it, another cat! She trotted over to Eaglepaw. "Hello, dear apprentice!" she called to the ThunderClan cat. Eaglepaw looked up with the vole dangling from his jaws. Setting it down he smiled "Hi Icestar. There isn't much around but so far I have caught a mouse and this vole. It isn't much but every bit counts I guess." Eaglepaw barried the vole quickly than opened his mouth to try and scent something. "I can't smell any more pray here."

Icetsar nodded slowly at the apprentice's words. She twitched her tail, looking around. "Leafbeare is coming," she mewed absent-minded. Suddenly, something flashed in her eyes but she blinked it away. A idea hit her--RiverClan's river. She turned her head towards it. "Maybe... we could try and fish?" she suggested, wondering if her Clan would liekt he taste of them. She had only fished once before, and that was when she was a apprentice. She had caught only one, and it tasted horrible. But was it worth it, if they could survive leafbare and still follow the Warrior code?

Eaglepaw's ears pricked up. "Could we learn though? We where not made for the water Icestar." Eaglepaw liked the idea but if they got caught by Riverclan they would be in big trouble. Eaglepaw looked in the direction of the river and wondered if they good learn to fish and not get caught. "If it is possible than you can count me in Icestar."

Icetstar had thought of that. "We wouldn't teach everyone," she mewed, explaining. "Only a few warriors and maybe more then one apprentice would know. And we would only do it for this loeafbare." She knew they were allowed to fish on their side of the territory, but wondered what RiverClanners would say. "Do you think it is a good idea?" she questioned the young apprentice.

Eaglepaw sat down to think about it. "As long as we don't cross over into riverclan territory we should be ok. We need all the food we can get with leafbare getting closer every day. With what pray we can find in the woods and the fish we catch it should keep us going." Eaglepaw ran his tongue down his chest fur nervoulsy. He had always known fishing was for Riverclan but desperate times call for desperate measures.

Icestar drew in a breath, then padded to the river bank. "Yes," she replied to the apprentice, then added, "All I know about fishing is that you aim for where the fish is going insted of where the fish is." She stared into the river, trying to spot a flash of something that stood for a fish.

Eaglepaw followed and looked into the river. Towards the middle he saw a shadow swim by but it was out of reach. His claws dug into the ground and waited. "That sounds harder than catching a mouse or a vole." Just than a fish swam right in front of him. Getting excited he flashed his paw out. He felt his claws sink in. Drawing his hand back he saw the fish but it wiggled and fell from his graspplanding next to him on the ground. He lunged at it to try and get it before it got back into the river.

Icepaw's head turned abruptly at the sound of a splash. She saw Eaglepaw struggle with a fish. She wanted to shout, "Get it!" and dive after it, but she knew that would distract him. All she did was move her tail to go infront of the river so the fish had to go over it before landing back in its home.

Eaglepaw dropped down onto it so it couldn't move than bit down killing it. When he stood up his belly and chest fur where soaked. He grabbed the fish and pulled it farther from the bank. "Yuck it's slimy" he shivered and shook his pelt trying to dry it."I hope it taste better than it feels." Eaglepaw went about licking his fur to dry it. "So I guess I have to perfect the way I catch them" he purred softly in laughter.

Icestar did a cat laugh, more of a mrrow the a real Twoleg laugh. She knew they felt odd; and she also knew they tasted the way they felt. She did not point that out to the apprentice, though--nobody is supposed to know that she fished when she was a apprentice. "I know we all do. ThunderClan cats were meant for the forest," she mewed casualy, then padded back to the river banks. She stared into the water, spotting her ice-white reflection staring back at her.

Eaglepaw sniffed at the fish than poked at it with his paw and licked his paw. He shook his head "YUCK!" He quickly padded back to the river and watched to see how Icestar would catch a fish. He froze as he watched a fish swim towards his mentor. This was her chance to show him the right way to catch a fish.

Icestar heard her apprentice mew, and her ear twitched in amusement. Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye she spotted a fish. She got her claws unseathed and reached out, paw hoised above the water. When the fish was directly unde rher paw, she flew it our infront of the fish and felt it claw around some slimey, wet scales. Quickly she threw it up in the air, and pawed it. It flew onto the ground and she quickly bit it, killing the prey. Icestar was reliefed that she did not make a fool of herself infront of the aprentice. She would not know what to do if her Clan did not respect her. She picked the silver fish up in her jaws and dropped it with Eaglepaw's fish. "I wonder what the elders will think of that," Icestar mewed, making a joke. She nodded to the apprentice as she went back to the edge of the bank.

Eaglepaw watched in surprise as his mentor caught a fish with out a problem. "Amazing" Eaglepaw padded to the edge again. He got ready to cat another fish. After a couple minutes another silver fish swam towards him. As soon as it was in front of him he flashed his paw out aiming for where the wish was going. He felt his claws sink into the scales quickly as possible he pulled it out. The fish went flying over his head. He quickly bit down on it's neck killing it. "Wow that was easier that time."
