STRAY DOGS
The Introduction
Born from the imagnations of humans who created us, we are everything they wanted, everything they dreamed of, and we are the persona they desired. But who are we really? We are the Stray Dogs
The Story
Science flourished, as did mankind. Technology allowed for more efficient production of food, enhanced lifespans, and the elimination of sickness and disease. However, it also allowed for more effective ways of slaughtering ones enemies. As the world’s population increased, and the neo nationalist movements garnered wider support, the ties between once close nations grew taut. First enmity grew between the leader’s, and then spread to the citizens like a wildfire. Soon caution and small tolerance grew into hostility and hate. Immigrants from all walks of life were attacked, and small scale firefights broke out amongst neighboring nations. Soon full scale battles began, and the world became ravaged by war until it was consumed by death.
Year 986x: The great war has become all but forgotten, though its effects are still plain to see. A seemingly neverending wall of dust and ash covers the skies, blotting out all traces of the sun. Humanity has banded together in makeshift cities, and the hatred of the past has become no more. Once again science has flourished, producing more and more things than was possible even before the war. Thanks to the efforts of Jonathan Vanaer, a little known geneticist, bio-engineered humanoids have become possible for the first time. Affectionately called faunlings by their creator, these new creatures have captured the imaginations of mankind. Originally only available to the rich and influential, increased research and more efficient methods have allowed for virtually every home to have at least one. Horns, wings, ears, tails. Whatever one wishes for their faunlings to possess is but a matter of money. The creatures became a staple of life and a status symbol, the more exotic ones faunlings and the more they possessed the better of one could assume them to be.
Year 1123x: The city of Davaren has become the center of life in the ruined world. With a population in the millions, it is by far the largest settlement known to man. If there is something that cannot be found or done within Davaren, then its not likely to exist in this world. Its many scientific institutes have given the people things that they could only dream of, whilst erasing the memories of other creations. With the death of Dr. Vanaer some 50 years ago, the desire for his beloved faunlings slowly died alongside him. No longer did people proudly parade their pets around town, but instead they dumped them in the alley. With no desire or profit within the market for faunlings, the knowledge of how to create them was gradually lost until it was completely gone. With no one to care for them the creatures began dieing in droves, though some did manage to cling to the edge of life.
Most of them now live in the Underworld, the dank lower city portion of Davaren ,separate from the upper and middle class section. Some of the faunlings began banding together, seeing it as the only way to insure their survival. But the government saw this as a prep for something more. Establishing the Bureau for the Apprehnesion and Elimination of Unnatural Residents, or BAEUR, they sought to be done with the problem once and for all. Sweeping into the Underworld, BAEUR began a witch hunt for every faunling still clinging to survival. All faunlings found were immediately executed, all found suspected of assisting the faunlings will be executed immediately, and even all suspected of hiding their identity as a faunling will be executed. Now the creatures live in fear, carefully concealing their movements for fear they will be discovered. It is only a matter of time before they are all found and killed. Afterall, what can they do when their nothing but stray dogs.
